HELP!! With my macbook!?

I have a white Macbook from Dec 2009. I started hearing this mild crackling noise on the left side of the computer just a few minutes ago (never heard it before) and then I touched the battery charger at the area where it connects to the computer, and it was BURNING hot, I had to pull my finger away quickly. It's been hot before but never that hot. Is this an issue, does it mean anything? I'm hoping this thing isn't getting ready to blow up or something lol
